What is Delta-8? There is a reason CBD has become so popular: it has a vast number of health benefits. CBD differs from marijuana because it contains no THC, which is the compound that is responsible for psychoactive effects like euphoria, relaxation, and sedation. Delta 8 is an amazing new product line that is lighting the CBD world on fire. It’s a compound that has all the benefits of CBD combined with a similar benefit to your psyche that is comparable to cannabis.

What is Delta-8? What is Delta-9?

Both THC and CBD contain cannabinoids. THC has the scientific name of delta-9 THC, or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. Delta-8 is the scientific name for delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol or delta-8 THC. Delta-8 provides many of the same benefits for mental wellness as THC, without the same potency. When people talk about THC, they typically don’t attach the delta-9 or delta-8 for clarification, but they are very closely related.

Why is that important? Currently, Delta-8 is legal due to the 2018 Farm Bill. It is a product that is extracted from both cannabis and hemp. The bill allows for the legal growth of hemp across the United States, which means that technically, Delta-8 is legal for use. States that do not allow the production of Delta-9, which is extracted from cannabis, do allow for Delta-8 because it can be produced from hemp.

Both Delta-9 and Delta-8 bind to the endocannabinoid system, causing a euphoric or “high” mental feeling. They both have a double bond, which is responsible for psychoactive symptoms. But Delta-8 and Delta-9 differ chemically, because the double bond is in a different placement. Both contain carbon atoms, but Delta-9 binds on the ninth carbon and Delta-8 on the eighth. The difference in bond placement changes the potency of how it affects the body.

The Benefits of Delta-8

For people living in states where THC or Delta-9 are not legal, Delta-8 provides the same positive effects but legally. Also, many prefer Delta-8 because it has the same positive euphoric effects but tends not to have the same adverse effects as THC, like short-term memory loss, anxiety, dry mouth, increased appetite, or paranoia.

CBD Versus Delta-8

CBD doesn’t bind as quickly to the cannabinoid system, which makes it non-intoxicating. But it still provides a host of medicinal therapeutic properties. However, it might not contain all of the mental health benefits that THC can. Delta-8 offers the best of both worlds: it works to help physically, as well as offering the same psychoactive benefits without the adverse ones that are typically associated with THC or Delta-9.

Is Delta-8 Right for You?

If you already enjoy the benefits of CBD, then Delta-8 is just one more great step to wellness. Unlike THC – which is illegal and comes with some adverse effects – Delta-8 provides all the great benefits of both CBD and THC. The only way to know for sure whether it is for you is to give it a try. There are no risks to users, and it is a great alternative to medicinal agents that can come with unwanted effects.
